Nathaniel Kimpan of Boy Scout troop 200 has constructed and installed four bat houses at GOSA’s Avery Farm as his Eagle Scout project.
Two bat houses have been installed next to the horse paddock behind the sheds west of the dirt road, Lambtown Road Extension (LRE). Two more houses were installed in another field further north, also west of LRE. Both sites abut the 38-acre marsh. The houses are painted black, and are attached to tall posts. They have been located away from tree branches to reduce vulnerability to predators.
Keep an eye out for new bat occupants and send us a report and pictures. We expect the bats to help us with insect control and will become part of this special ecosystem.
