Annual Haley Farm “Earth Day” Work Party

Some great people and a beautiful day combined to make our annual Haley Farm “Earth Day”  work party a big success.  The atmosphere was great and our volunteers were ready to make a difference by doing some much needed maintenance.  The Cub Scouts got into the act by picking up trash throughout the park.  GOSA’s board of directors were on hand as well to welcome everyone, share some history, and provide food and beverages to all.

Our stewardship crew targeted three areas to work on:

Along the trail by the water, work focused on removing vines from  pine trees in the meadow, and clearing the eastern side of the long wall starting by the picnic table.

Along the main dirt road, two areas were given attention.  At the first intersection (left turn) a section of stone wall was cleared.  A viney mess made of briars, and small invasive trees was removed.

Further down the road, trees were liberated from vines and a section of a stone wall was cleared.

Our crew used loppers, rakes, sawzalls, snips, hedge trimmers, and a chain saw.  A positive and determined spirit was evident as they attacked and cleared the unwanted vegetation.

We are looking for new Board and Committee Members!

Interested in getting more involved with GOSA? We are looking for new Board and Committee Members!

Do you enjoy the outdoors? Do you value open space? Do you want to do more to conserve, restore and care for our local environment? If you answered yes to any of these questions, please consider joining one of the many GOSA Committees (stewardship, land acquisition, finance, events, and more). If you are interested in helping to shape the future of GOSA and serving on the Board of Directors, we are currently looking for like-minded individuals to join us who care as much as we do about protecting and preserving our local lands so they can be enjoyed well into the future. There are no requirements to join the Committees, and no specific requirements to apply for a Board position. Backgrounds in grant writing, real estate transactions, financial reporting, and website and social media management are just a few skills that could benefit the Board but are not required. If you are interested or would like additional information, please contact Wendy Spader, Nominating & Recruiting Committee Chair, at [email protected].
